Not my Miata btw
...when it’s been apart for a few months? I don’t have much to fix to make it start again, but procrastination hits me all the time. It took me 3 months to find the motivation to replace a pulley for the timing belt. The fact that the car got into an accident and the frame needs a tad straightening, doesn’t help at all. What are your tricks Oppo?

If you can’t find the energy to fix, then it’s time to sell and move on?

I guess I always could have a 3.5mm fish swim up your urethra and die, potentially causing infection possibly requiring surgery to remove but I suppose that’s a minor threat compared to being transformed into Guy Fieri. It’s Vandellia Cirrhosa btw.

Commit to X hours of work on your car for a specific amount of time. Failure to meet up your commitment and you can set it up to donate some of your money to your enemies. You don’t want those assholes using your money for blackjack and hookers you could be buying yourself, dooo yoooou? Yeah that’s what I thought. NOW GET TO WORK!

I haven’t found a trick yet. At some point the motivation will be that I want to pull a David Tracy move out of my ass and have the cheap Jeep up and running.

Well then, consider not wanting to repeat what happened with the FC by finishing this current project?

It’s easy. Have a boring, efficient and practical daily driver thus knowing that your only possible escape from automotive purgatory is to build it yourself.

That’s the option I am looking into. Plus not having to wrench on a dd makes project car work seem more appealing.

I have a Civic Hybrid 2012...it’s gaining me day by day.

Pick something stupid-easy to do. Like “I’m just going to unbolt this one piece and then I’m going back inside.”
Once you do that, you will be tempted to do “one more thing” before calling it quits, and before you know it, an hour passes by and you’ve made some actual progress.

in a small notepad make a list of EVERYTHING that you need to do to it, and get for it. itemize the list so that it is simple, and all the jobs are small. for example if you were working on the fuel tank of an old car
re.re tank.
kill yellow jackets next to tank(buy carb cleaner).......unbolt tank...kill spiders around filler neck... remove tank.......clean rust out of tank(buy marbles....buy berryman)......... buy fresh hoses for tank(3 feet 3/8 )........buy fuel filters/sediment bowl for tank......paint tank.........cut new mounting rubber for tank(get doormat for rubber).....buy new mounting bolts/nuts for tank( buy 3/8 grade 8 2 inch)..... buy fresh hose clamps...... etc.......
as you get the stuff done and bought, you can mark it off the list. feels like progress marking stuff off............
